School??..... already ?!?

just a funny story...
there is a girl in my primary class that likes to think she is always right,
and i am coming to find she is quite the fibber!

she was sitting next to a girl who was wearing flip flops,
and i hear her say with confidence and no doubt in her mind... "god and bishop said that we're not allowed to wear flip flops to church!"
i just thought it was funny...

michio's family from japan was here for about a week.
on saturday we had a nice big dinner together.
on sunday we had breakfast with them, and that was the last time we were going to see them.
we brought some things to give to them.
there were 2 brothers that were michio's cousins.
one of them came with their wife, and the other came with their daughter.
michio gave each of the guys a members only jacket, and a few ties from the 70's.
i brought all of the scarves that i have been crocheting for them to choose from, and also the earrings that i have been making.

since they do not speak english, we had michio's sister (who served her mission in japan) translate for us.

i told her to tell them that they could choose one scarf each, and a few earrings each.
as they are looking through everything i am sitting on the couch occupied with all the nieces and nephews....
and the next thing i see is that all of the scarves i had made were going into their suitcases!!!
i didnt know what to do.... they looked so happy and were so grateful!!!
michio's sister came up to us moments after i had told michio and she felt so bad because she was sure she told them choose and not take them all!
i have been making those to sell at the craft fair we are going to participate in in october.
it was a couple hundred dollars worth of scarves if i were to sell them...

buttttt..... it was too late to say anything to them.
plus they have several feet of snow in the winter, and it is something that they can share with the rest of the family that didn't get to come to america, so that pretty much makes it worth it.
don't get me wrong i was still kinda sad...
so on the way home i had a moment of silence.
after that i was good, and on monday michio came with me to the store to buy more yarn =]

other news... summer is over!
i really feel like i have had no summer!
i literally only had 2.5 weeks off before having to go back to school...
and on that break i've already gotten homework.....

tomorrow is the beginning of a 3 day orientation for me....
first of all... why does an orientation need to be 3 days !?!
anddd... it is from 8:30am-4pm all three days....
whyyyyyyyyyyyyy....
and then the first day of school is monday.
im getting a headache just thinking about it...
and not to mention....
today i woke up with 4 mosquito bites... all in the middle of my forehead!!!!!!!
whyyyyyyyyyyyy

here is a short video of our cutie niece kalo to lighten the mood

No More School

this past week has been freedom from school!!
although i am sad that this is going to be the shortest summer of my life...
i get about a 3 week break before i have to go back.

just wanted to share what i've been doing in my spare time!

our niece alilia is getting older.
she will be turning 12 next year, and needed a room makeover.
plus she is getting a new roommate...
her 2 1/2 year old sister.

the room used to be shared with all three of her brothers...
with grey walls and a black ceiling.

her mom has been the interior decorator,
and they have been going for a "japanese shabby chic" look.

i didnt take pictures of the whole room.
i'm just showing what i was involved with.

its hard to tell in the photos,
but the room is light pink with a white ceiling

photos don't really do justice to what it looks like in real life.
but anyways...
here is a cherry blossom inspired tree with little birdies

<<<< close ups >>>>

 i really enjoyed creating this!
it has been quite a while since i have painted, so it was nice to freshen up!

today we spent the majority of our day watching football !!!
michio has three nephews playing pop warner.
the oldest is 12, then 10, then 8.
three different teams.... so saturdays are going to be looooong.
today they had their jamboree.
each team had about 6 ten minute scrimmages with the other teams in the league.
there was only four teams on a field at a time,
so they spent time waiting to play,
and also each cheer team from every age group performed halfway through each divisions session.

michios brother in law is one of the assistant coaches for 10 year old takeshi's team

this is natsumi and kalo.
natsumi is michio's 18 year old cousin who is visiting from japan.
she hardly speaks any english but has really been enjoying america  =]

read if you dare (seriously)

this is a serious warning...
you may not want to read this whole thing.
it is probably not something people want to know..
but i dont care.
i have to let it out.

last night i experienced something i hoped i would never go through...
but it happened.

michio and i were watching tv.
he is known for having some stinky farts.
(this is the point where you decide if you want to continue reading or not)
he somehow has an inclination and can feel if it is going to be worse while it is bubbling up in there, and he will either put the blanket over my face, or tell me to do it.
so he lets one off and it is just like all the others... no big deal (still super stinky tho).

about 5 minutes later he lets another one go.
milliseconds later all i hear is "oh my gosh"
...
before he could finish i instantly feel my eyeballs grow in pure shock, and my body instinctually immediately shoots up.
then i feel myself starting to make that gagging face... you know the one where your mouth is open and your tongue starts creeping out of your mouth? thats the one.
remember when you were younger and poured salt on snails and they start bubbling???
well thats what i thought was going to happen to my tongue as it reached the toxic air...
i continued to dart towards the hallway for relief and to regain consciousness.
as i am laying there in recovery, all i hear is laughter and pure enjoyment of my suffering coming from the other room.

after about 3 minutes of laying in the hallway, the culprit had already let another one go.
i let it settle for about 2 minutes....
then i made my move.
"michiooo...... will you bring me some pillows and a blanket please?"

he does as i asked, but responds with a "babe, seriously?  come back to bed."
i respond with a "yeah seriously... i'm not about to commit suicide in that death trap."

so i think everyone knows that there is a hierarchy in fart stench.
their are odorless, slight stench, stank, then farts that are so bad they smell like pure poop (and all the in between).
well this one was wayyyyy past the point of poop.
it was like smelling a rotting carcass of a huge animal.
i dont wish this on even my worst enemies.

so i know i may have been a bit dramatic,
but the real question is...
did it really stink that bad?
and without a doubt my answer is yes.

Lonely Sunday

today i have been home all alone an hour after coming home from church.
unfortunately michio has to work most sundays, and today was one of those days.
i saw him for about 30 mins after church before he had to leave.

all of the family is going to michio's brother and his wife house in placerville.
its about 45 minutes away from tahoe, so they are up in the mountains.
they have dogs and goats and sheep, and burn their own trash.

all the kids are having a sleepover at their house, and they are celebrating takeshi's birthday.
michio went up to join everyone, and to spend most of the day there since he doesn't work tomorrow.
my first night away from him in a loooong time!
i won't be home from school until about 5 p.m. so it works out
by the way... school is so draining i cannot wait for next sunday!
one more week and then i am free!!

today was fast sunday
there are always a bundle of kids who go up to the pulpit
here are a few of the funny things they said today:

"i'd like to barry my testimony, i know my family loves me... and when the baby fell down the stairs i catched him... in the name of jesus christ amen"
"...i know this church is true, and that my family loves me... i know the church is true... and that the church is true... in the name of jesus christ amen"

i just wanted to share something ive been working on.
i've been doing this every once in a while when i am bored.
so far ive made about 30 pairs.

earrings!
there are a bunch of different colors,
and i am going to start making some with designs
my sister in law is going to be in a craft faire in december.
my plan is to sell these and make some money!!!
where we live they have facebook pages where people in the neighborhood post items to buy and sell, so i am planning on doing a little trial run on the site to see how many bites i get.
